Scarlet Heart Programs
The Urgent Problem
Every year, over 3 million dogs wind up in U.S. shelters. Many develop stress-related behaviors that make them all the more difficult to adopt.
The situation is worse for older dogs.
According to the ASPCA, the adoption rate for seniors is only 25% compared to 60% for younger dogs. Not only do aging dogs struggle more because of their physical needs, they’re also often grieving the loss of a loved one who passed away or could no longer care for them after a lifetime spent together.
Thanks to their wisdom and experience, senior pups so often make for perfect companions. And yet, they tend to be overlooked because adopters assume they'll be hard to care for or because they fear facing the pain of loss.
And so, through no fault of their own, the dogs who need us most live out the rest of their lives alone.
At Scarlet Heart, we’ve set out to make dogs’ golden years truly golden! Will you join us in this dogged pursuit?
